Hey there!
My name is Karis (Kah-REES) and I am a musician who has been traveling the world since the day I owned my first passport (over 20 years ago!). I started this blog with the goal to inspire others to travel, share information on places I have been, and hopefully use it as my own inspiration to keep traveling and sharing the world with others!
I was born in Michigan where I learned from an early age to correct people on the pronunciation of my Greek name (Kah-REES), as well as developing a love for travel and camping with my family. After graduating from university with a music performance degree, I moved to Kenya, where I spent the next 9 years teaching music and traveling as much as possible.
While in Kenya, I met my future husband, Andreas, who also shares a love of traveling with me. We have been married since 2017 and have two children. Together, we have been exploring this amazing world and hope to keep traveling for as long as we are able!
Currently, I am based in Berlin , Germany. When I’m not traveling I teach music and am a classical performer on the violin. I also dabble in writing and photography when I have time.
More things about me:
- I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do
- I play violin, viola, cello, piano, and Scottish bagpipes (really)
- I love curling up with a good book
- I am passionate about creating positive social change through teaching music (check out a music project I founded called El Sistema Kenya for more information)
- I qualified for the Olympic time trials to compete in swimming when I was 13
- I love the great outdoors and spend a lot of time hiking, kayaking, triathlon training and racing, and camping
